Patna: The state education department is working to introduce one additional regional language — Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika, Magahi or Angika — for students of classes I to V in govt schools, education minister Mithilesh Tiwari said on Tuesday.

The move is being planned under the National Education Policy, with the department also focusing on skill-based and employment-oriented education, Tiwari said while reviewing its functioning at Vikas Bhawan.

The meeting discussed allowing students who pass the Madhyama examination to pursue Plus-II studies through the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board.

Necessary amendments to the relevant Act will be made, officials said. Around 24,000 students passed the examination last year.
