Indian Students Embark on MBBS Journey in Russia, ETEducation

More than 300 Indian students preparing to pursue MBBS at Russian medical universities gathered in New Delhi for Sobraniye 2026, a pre-departure ceremony organised by Rus Education in collaboration with the Russian House.

The event, held on October 1, brought together students headed to Orenburg State Medical University, Perm State Medical University, Mari State University, Pskov State University and Kalmyk State University, among other institutions.

The ceremony marked the transition from admission preparations to the studentsтАЩ move to Russia and gave them an opportunity to meet fellow students and interact with delegates before beginning their medical education.

Addressing the students, Lt. Gen. Bipin Puri, PVSM, VSM (Retd.), Director of Medical Services (North Zone), Apollo Group of Hospitals, emphasised that their focus should go beyond obtaining a medical degree.

тАЬYou are not going there just to earn a degree. You are going there to become a doctor. There is a difference,тАЭ he said, urging students to approach their education with discipline and responsibility.

Dr. Sanjeev K. Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, reminded students that medical education requires sustained effort and commitment.

тАЬBecoming a doctor is not an easy journey. It requires hard work, dedication and commitment,тАЭ he said, encouraging students to build a strong foundation in subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology.

Elena Barman of the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots encouraged students to learn Russian even if their medical programmes are taught in English, saying knowledge of the language would help them in everyday interactions and while experiencing life in the country.

Air Marshal (Dr.) Pawan Kapoor (Retd.), Technical Advisor, Rus Education, said Sobraniye represented an important milestone for students and their families as they begin their journey towards becoming doctors.

The ceremony also highlighted the continuing educational interaction between India and Russia, with Indian students preparing to join medical universities across the country.

Admissions for the 2026-27 intake at participating Russian universities are continuing, subject to seat availability. Rus Education said it provides guidance on university selection, eligibility, fees, admission procedures and pre-departure preparation.

For the students and families attending Sobraniye 2026, the event marked the final stage of preparation before departure and the beginning of their medical education journey in Russia.
