NEW DELHI: The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has proposed revising the remuneration structure for guest teachers working in government schools, shifting from a per-day payment system to fixed monthly remuneration based on basic pay and dearness allowance (DA). The proposal, detailed in official documents dated October 15, sets out revised monthly amounts for postgraduate, trained graduate and primary teachers.
The proposed structure covers postgraduate teachers (PGTs), including educational and vocational guidance counsellors (EVGCs), trained graduate teachers (TGTs), miscellaneous teachers and primary teachers (PRTs). According to the DoE, these guest teachers work against sanctioned vacant posts and perform duties equivalent to those of regular teachers. Their engagement does not create additional posts.
Proposed monthly salary for Delhi guest teachers
Under the proposal, monthly remuneration would comprise basic pay plus DA calculated at 60% and rounded to the nearest rupee.
| Post | Basic pay | DA at 60% | Proposed monthly remuneration |
| PGT, including EVGC | Rs 47,600 | Rs 28,560 | Rs 76,160 |
| TGT, including miscellaneous teachers | Rs 44,900 | Rs 26,940 | Rs 71,840 |
| PRT | Rs 35,400 | Rs 21,240 | Rs 56,640 |
The DA rate would be revised in line with changes notified by the government from time to time. However, guest teachers would not be eligible for house rent allowance (HRA) or any other allowance under the proposed arrangement.
Casual leave and salary deductions
The proposal provides for eight days of casual leave (CL) per financial year on a pro-rata basis. Unused leave cannot be carried forward to the next financial year or encashed.
For absences exceeding the permitted leave entitlement, remuneration would be deducted at one-thirtieth of the fixed monthly amount for each additional day.
| Post | Proposed deduction per day |
| PGT, including EVGC | Rs 2,539 |
| TGT, including miscellaneous teachers | Rs 2,395 |
| PRT | Rs 1,888 |
Payment during school vacations
Guest teachers who have worked continuously and remain engaged before the commencement of the summer vacation would be eligible for fixed monthly remuneration during the summer and winter vacations, according to the proposal.
The proposed revision changes the payment method from daily remuneration to a monthly structure linked to basic pay and DA. The document outlines the proposed salary rates, leave entitlement, deductions and vacation payments. The revised arrangement remains a proposal, and its implementation will depend on the applicable official decision.
